Union Minister of Power Shri Manohar Lal reviewed Kerala’s power sector at a meeting in Thiruvananthapuram.
Shri Suresh Gopi, Minister of State for MoPNG & Tourism, and Shri K Krishnankutty, Kerala’s Minister for Electricity, attended with officials from the State Government, GoI, and Power Finance Corporation (PFC).
Key topics included power demand, supply, capacity additions in renewable, hydro, and nuclear sectors, and the status of the Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS). Kerala highlighted concerns over future demand and power distribution.
The Minister thanked the Union Government for coal linkage, Viability Gap Funding for Battery Energy Storage, and power allocation from NTPC Barh. He requested additional power allocation and emphasized renewable energy integration.
Shri Manohar Lal urged the State to reduce AT&C losses, implement RDSS projects swiftly, and roll out smart meters in phases. He also directed action on issues related to nuclear power projects and Way Leave charges.
The Union Minister assured continued support from the Government of India for Kerala’s power sector development.
