Welspun New Energy Ltd. (WNEL) has signed a power purchase agreement (PPA) with the Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) for a 200 MW solar photovoltaic project integrated with a 400 MWh battery energy storage system (BESS). This is the company’s first contracted project that includes a storage component.

The capacity was secured through a competitive bidding process conducted by SECI last year, with a discovered tariff of Rs 2.86 per kWh. With this agreement, WNEL’s total contracted portfolio has reached 1.6 GWp.

Under the tender conditions, the project is required to maintain a minimum storage configuration of 500 kW and 2 MWh for every 1 MW of solar capacity. The project can be developed on a pan-India basis and will be connected to the Inter-State Transmission System (ISTS).

WNEL is the green energy infrastructure arm of Welspun World, which has operations across home textiles, steel pipes, building materials, infrastructure, and logistics. The company is focused on utility-scale renewable energy assets and green hydrogen development.
