Suzlon signals next phase with Wind 2.0 initiatives

Suzlon Energy is entering a new phase of growth with fresh strategic initiatives, said Vice Chairman Girish Tanti. The company is sharpening its focus on expansion within wind power while exploring opportunities beyond conventional generation.

Speaking during the World Economic Forum Annual Meeting, Tanti reflected on Suzlon’s three-decade journey. He said the company was founded when wind energy lacked market acceptance. Today, Suzlon is one of five major global wind original equipment manufacturers and the only player from the Global South, alongside GE from the United States and Siemens, Vestas, and Nordex from Europe.

Tanti said the next phase is built around two initiatives, Wind 2.0 and Suzlon 2.0. Wind 2.0 involves restructuring the wind business into defined verticals. Product development will operate as a separate unit, while the engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) and services businesses will be scaled independently.

These business verticals will be supported by a company wide digital transformation programme, sharper customer value focus, and stronger safety systems. Tanti said Suzlon’s integrated model and long operating history provide a competitive advantage.

He also highlighted Suzlon’s role in India’s energy ecosystem, noting its engagement with more than 2,500 Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs). He linked future growth to India’s renewable expansion, stating that renewables now account for nearly 50% of the country’s energy requirement, opening both domestic and export opportunities.

Tanti added that advances in energy storage have addressed intermittency challenges, making round the clock green power commercially viable. This positions companies like Suzlon to support India’s energy self sufficiency and reduce reliance on fossil fuel imports.
