Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated energy infrastructure projects worth over Rs 5,400 crore in West Bengal to expand gas connectivity, promote clean fuel use, and support industrial activity.

Prime Minister highlighted the government’s ‘One Nation, One Gas Grid’ vision and said the Pradhan Mantri Urja Ganga (PMUG) project was designed to improve energy access and drive growth in eastern India. He noted that Durgapur has now been connected to the national gas grid and said this would help industries in Durgapur and Raghunathpur access affordable gas and compete more effectively.

The Prime Minister dedicated the 132-km Durgapur-Kolkata section of the Durgapur-Haldia Natural Gas Pipeline, built under the PMUG initiative. The pipeline passes through Purba Bardhaman, Hooghly, and Nadia districts and is expected to improve the supply of clean energy to households and industries.

He also laid the foundation stone for Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited’s (BPCL) City Gas Distribution project in Bankura and Purulia.

Modi further dedicated the flue gas desulphurisation (FGD) systems installed at the Durgapur Steel and Raghunathpur thermal power stations of Damodar Valley Corporation (DVC). Developed at a combined cost of over Rs 1,457 crore, the systems are intended to reduce sulphur dioxide emissions and improve air quality.
