SSEN Transmission opens an offshore hub in Inverness to support its £20 billion Pathway to 2030 programme, focusing on HVDC projects and grid upgrades in Scotland.

SSEN Transmission has officially opened a new offshore hub in Inverness, Scotland, designed to accommodate up to 100 people and serve as a collaborative space for companies involved in regional energy projects. The hub, housed within SSEN’s existing building, offers desk space and meeting rooms named after iconic local bridges, such as Dornoch and Cromarty.

The facility will support SSEN Transmission’s £20 billion ($26.12 billion) Pathway to 2030 programme, which aims to upgrade Scotland’s electricity grid with new overhead lines, substations, converter stations, and subsea cables. The hub will focus on major offshore high voltage direct current (HVDC) projects, including the Western Isles HVDC Link, Spittal to Peterhead HVDC Link, and the Orkney Link project.

Representatives from 11 key supply chain partners attended the hub’s opening, while SSEN Transmission also continues construction of a £17 million ($22.2 million) operations warehouse at Inverness Airport Business Park, expected to be completed by spring 2025.
