SJVN commissions Unit 1 of 1320 MW Buxar thermal project

SJVN has achieved commercial operation for Unit 1 of the 1320 MW Buxar Thermal Power Project through its wholly owned subsidiary SJVN Thermal Private Limited. The 660 MW unit entered commercial service today under Regulation 30 of the SEBI Listing Regulations. The project is designed to support power supply in Bihar and the wider eastern region.

The Buxar project is located at Chausa in the Buxar district, Bihar. It has a total capacity of 1320 MW made up of two 660 MW units. SJVN Thermal Private Limited is executing the project. The plant uses supercritical technology to improve efficiency and limit environmental impact. Annual generation is expected to reach 9,828.72 million units. Bihar will receive 85 per cent of this output under a long-term power purchase agreement.

The company had earlier reported the completion of a 72-hour trial run of Unit 1 on November 5, 2025. The project involves an investment of Rs 13,756.56 crore. SJVN stated that the new capacity will ease peak-hour shortages and improve power availability in the state.
