SJVN completes 72-hour trial run of 660 MW Unit-2 at Buxar project

SJVN Limited has completed the 72-hour trial run of Unit-2 of its 1,320 MW Buxar Thermal Power Project in Bihar, marking a key step towards the unit’s commercial operation. The 660 MW unit completed the trial run on August 31, 2026, following its earlier achievement of reaching its full load of 660 MW at the project site in Chausa, Buxar district.

Sh. Bhupender Gupta, Chairman and Managing Director, SJVN, congratulated employees and stakeholders on the completion of the trial run and said the company is now set for the commercial operation of Unit-2. Sh. Rajesh Kumar Chandel, Director (Projects), SJVN, said the achievement represents a significant milestone in SJVN’s thermal power journey.

Project status

The project is being implemented by SJVN Thermal Private Limited (STPL), a wholly owned subsidiary of SJVN. The project comprises two units of 660 MW each and is based on supercritical technology, which is intended to provide higher efficiency and reduced environmental impact.

The plant is equipped with advanced emission control technology. Once fully commissioned, the 1,320 MW project is expected to generate approximately 9,828.72 million units of electricity annually.

The completion of the 72-hour trial run follows the unit’s recent achievement of full-load operation at 660 MW, bringing Unit-2 closer to commercial operation and marking another major stage in the development of the Buxar project.
