The Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) and the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to install solar power systems on around 244 civic buildings in Delhi. The announcement came alongside SECI confirming that it has commissioned over 25 GW of solar photovoltaic capacity across India.
The MoU was formally exchanged in the presence of NDMC Chairman Sh. Keshav Chandra, IAS. The agreement was signed by Sh. Manas Ranjan Mishra, Deputy General Manager and Head of Department (Solar) at SECI, and Er. Deepak Sachdeva, Chief Engineer (Electrical), representing NDMC.
The project focuses on expanding clean energy use across public infrastructure in the capital. It is intended to improve local energy security and lower carbon emissions. The initiative is also positioned as a replicable model for sustainable urban governance, aligned with India’s broader energy transition objectives.
SECI recently announced that it has commissioned more than 25 GW of solar capacity nationwide. This capacity has been added through multiple government-backed programmes, including the Viability Gap Funding (VGF) Scheme, projects under the Standard Bidding Guidelines (SBG), manufacturing-linked solar projects, the Central Public Sector Undertaking (CPSU) Scheme, and other categories.
According to SECI, these grid-connected projects were awarded through competitive bidding and operate under long-term Power Purchase Agreements. The projects are spread across several states and union territories, including Rajasthan, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Odisha, Uttar Pradesh, and Delhi.
