Solar Energy Corporation of India Limited (SECI) has concluded an auction for firm, dispatchable renewable energy (FDRE) projects, with leading developers securing capacity to supply clean power during peak demand periods. The auction is part of SECI’s efforts to scale reliable renewable energy backed by storage.
Serentica Renewables and ACME Solar emerged as the largest winners, each securing 600 MW at a tariff of Rs 6.28 per kWh. AMPIN Energy Transition was awarded 199 MW at the same tariff. Adyant Emnersol Private Limited secured 100 MW at a tariff of Rs 6.27 per kWh. The auction, identified as SECI FDRE VII, resulted in a total allocation of 899 MW.
The narrowly clustered tariffs indicate increasing market maturity for dispatchable renewable power in India. Developers are combining renewable generation with energy storage systems to ensure supply during high demand periods, supporting grid reliability. The auction aligns with SECI’s broader objective of expanding firm clean energy capacity.
The tender was initially issued for 1,200 MW of Inter State Transmission System connected projects. It was structured to deliver 4,800 MWh of electricity per day during specified peak hours, in line with Ministry of Power procurement guidelines and national clean energy targets. Under the model, SECI will sign 25 year power purchase agreements with the selected developers and supply power to buyers across the country.
As per the project conditions, developers will implement the projects on a Build Own Operate basis. Renewable generation is required to be co located with energy storage systems to ensure the delivery of 4,000 kWh per MW of contracted capacity each day during designated peak hours, typically covering non solar morning and evening periods. The structure is intended to provide firm renewable power when grid demand is at its highest.
