Sangamam Power Projects Private Limited has prepared a detailed project report (DPR) for the 1,000 MW pumped storage project (PSP) in Sunki, Koraput district in Odisha, which will be developed at an investment of Rs 70 billion.

The Odisha government and Telangana-based Sangamam Power have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to move forward with the project. The agreement was formalized at the Utkarsha Odisha Conclave 2025.

Odisha’s Deputy Chief Minister, Kanak Vardhan Singhdeo, recently held a review meeting on the project. He emphasized the importance of using the state’s natural resources to drive renewable energy growth, aligning with the national push for clean energy.

Out of 45 potential PSP locations identified in Odisha, 10 projects will be implemented by various Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs).

Sangamam Power has requested single-window clearance and other incentives from the Odisha government to fast-track implementation. Once completed, the Sunki PSP will provide six hours of peak power supply daily, improving grid stability and supporting Odisha’s energy transition.

The Sunki PSP will be among the state’s flagship pumped storage projects, utilizing reverse turbines to generate electricity during peak hours.
