Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (POWERGRID) has emerged as the successful bidder for an interstate transmission project, titled “Transmission system strengthening for integration of additional RE potential at Davanagere (0.25 GW) and Bellary (2.75 GW).”
The project was awarded through the Tariff-Based Competitive Bidding (TBCB) process. It will be developed on a Build, Own, Operate, and Transfer (BOOT) basis, with an estimated capital cost of Rs 1,111 crore.
The project will be implemented through a special purpose vehicle, Bellary Davanagere Power Transmission Limited. The implementation timeline is 24 months from the date of transfer of the SPV. POWERGRID received the Letter of Intent (LOI) on 08 January 2026. The LOI was issued on 07 January 2026.
The tender was floated by REC Power Development and Consultancy Limited (RECPDCL) in September 2025. The technically qualified bidders included Adani Energy Solutions Limited, H.G. Infra Engineering Limited, POWERGRID, and Resonia Limited.
The scope of work includes construction of an approximately 80 km 400 kV quad double circuit transmission line between Bellary and Davanagere. The project also involves major augmentation at both pooling stations. At Davanagere, the works include two 765/400 kV, 1,500 MVA interconnecting transformers, four 220 kV line bays, one 400 kV line bay, and one 400 kV bus sectionalizer. At Bellary, the scope covers six 400/220 kV, 500 MVA interconnecting transformers, along with multiple 400 kV and 220 kV bays, bus sectionalizers, and bus coupler systems.
The transmission system is intended to support large scale evacuation of renewable energy from a key renewable energy zone in Karnataka. It is expected to strengthen grid reliability and improve the national grid’s ability to manage high volumes of variable renewable generation.
