Prime Minister Narendra Modi has inaugurated the first 660 MW unit of the 1,320 MW Buxar Thermal Power Project of SJVN.

The Buxar project, located at Chausa in Buxar district, Bihar, is being developed by SJVN Thermal Private Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of SJVN. The project uses supercritical technology aimed at improving efficiency and lowering environmental impact. It involves an investment of Rs 13,756.56 crore and is expected to generate 9,828.72 million units of electricity annually. Under a long-term power purchase agreement, 85 per cent of the output has been allocated to Bihar.

SJVN Limited is a joint venture of the Government of India and the Government of Himachal Pradesh.

In the first quarter of 2025-26, SJVN reported a net profit of Rs 2.28 billion, down 36.13 per cent from Rs 3.57 billion in the same period a year earlier. The company’s total income in the quarter rose by 1.46 per cent to Rs 9.72 billion compared to Rs 9.58 billion in the corresponding period of the previous year.
