Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (PGCIL) has received a Letter of Intent (LoI) for selection as the transmission service provider (TSP) for a key power evacuation project in Madhya Pradesh.

The award follows a tariff based competitive bidding (TBCB) process under the build, own, operate, and transfer (BOOT) model.

The project is titled Transmission System for evacuation of power from Mahan Energen Limited Generating Station in Madhya Pradesh. PFC Consulting Limited (PFCCL), acting as the bid process coordinator (BPC), issued the Request for Proposal (RFP) in September 2024. The LoI was issued on April 1, 2025.

Mahan Energen Limited (MEL) operates a 2×600 MW generating station already connected to the inter-state transmission system (ISTS) under Central Electricity Regulatory Commission (CERC) 2009 connectivity regulations. So far, power evacuation has relied on a System Protection Scheme (SPS). The generator has now applied for General Network Access (GNA) to evacuate the full 1,200 MW capacity without SPS.

To enable this, a new 400 kV double circuit (D/c) quad line between Mahan (existing bus) and Rewa PS (PG) is required. Central Transmission Utility of India Limited (CTUIL) has noted that the line may cross a reserved forest area (Sone Crocodile Sanctuary) in Madhya Pradesh.

The project scope includes:

  1. A 400 kV D/c (quad) line using ACSR/AAAC/AL59 moose equivalent conductors between Mahan (existing bus) and Rewa PS (PG), covering 110 km
  2. Two 400 kV bays at Rewa PS (PG) for line termination
