NHPC Limited has started commercial operations for 31 MW of solar capacity under its 1,000 MW grid-connected solar PV power project (CPSU Tranche-III) in Bikaner, Rajasthan. The milestone was achieved on March 31, 2025.

The project is being executed in phases, with full commissioning expected by August 2025.

A 300 MW part of the project is under development by Tata Power Solar Systems Limited on an engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) basis. This section is located at Karnisar-Bhatiyan in Bikaner.

The larger 1,000 MW solar PV project is part of the 12,000 MW Central Public Sector Undertaking (CPSU) scheme Phase-II. NHPC is developing the project under Tranche-III with viability gap funding (VGF) support. The scheme is meant for self-use or supply to Union or state government entities. Power will be sold at a usage charge not exceeding Rs 2.45 per kWh, on a build, own, and operate (BOO) basis.
