Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (PGCIL) has been awarded the letter of intent for the Jam Khambhaliya augmentation scheme under the tariff-based competitive bidding (TBCB) route. The project involves establishing an interstate transmission system for the “Augmentation of transformation capacity at Jam Khambhaliya PS (GIS)” on a build, own, operate, and transfer (BOOT) basis. The letter of intent was received by PGCIL on September 12, 2024.
The Jam Khambhaliya augmentation project, estimated to cost Rs 3.1 billion, aims to enhance the transformation capacity at the Jam Khambhaliya GIS Pooling Station in Gujarat. The project will add four 1×500 MVA, 400/220kV ICTs, bringing the total number of ICTs at the station to nine. The scheme is designed to facilitate increased renewable energy transmission from solar and wind farms in Gujarat’s RE-rich regions, including Dwarka, into the Jam Khambhaliya Pooling Station, originally built by Adani Energy Solutions Ltd under a separate ISTS scheme.
PGCIL won the bid in a final race against Adani Energy Solutions Ltd. The project is expected to be completed within 21 months, with some elements scheduled to be commissioned in 18 months.
