Vestas has announced plans to transition its Isle of Wight factory in the UK from manufacturing offshore turbine blades to onshore blade production.
The shift follows an agreement in principle with the UK government and responds to declining demand for V174 offshore turbine blades and site constraints unsuitable for next-generation offshore blades.
Vestas will sustain 300 manufacturing jobs at the site while creating additional opportunities across its UK operations. The factory, which has supported global wind projects since 2002, will retain its blade research, design, and development centre, employing 140 people.
The company is set to consult with employee representatives, aiming to finalise plans by January 2025.
