Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (PGCIL) and Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on April 22, 2025, to jointly develop two double circuit (DC) cross-border transmission lines.

The planned transmission lines are:

  • 400 kV Inaruwa (Nepal) – New Purnea (India)

  • 400 kV Dododhara (Nepal) – Bareilly (India)

Under the MoU, each country will establish a joint venture (JV) company to develop and manage the respective segments of the transmission infrastructure.

These transmission systems are designed to enhance cross-border electricity exchange. They aim to improve grid stability, ensure energy security, and support economic growth in both countries.
