GE Power secures E&M contract for Saundatti hydro project

GE Power India Limited has won a Rs 2.73 billion contract from Greenko KA01 IREP Private Limited for the electro-mechanical (E&M) package of an additional 320 MW unit in the 1,600 MW Saundatti Hydro Electric Power Project in Karnataka.
The contract, awarded on February 27, 2025, covers engineering, manufacturing, procurement, supply, installation, and testing. The work is scheduled for completion by November 2027.
The Saundatti project is part of the Saundatti Integrated Renewable Energy Pumped Storage Project (IRESP) in Karnataka’s Belagavi district, developed with an investment of Rs 59.65 billion. Initially planned at 1,280 MW, the project capacity was revised to 1,600 MW.
Greenko KA01 IREP Private Limited, a special purpose vehicle (SPV), oversees the project’s development, construction, and operation. The project also includes wind and solar energy components. GE Power India had previously secured a contract for the remaining 1,280 MW capacity in April 2022.
