NTPC, UPRVUNL sign pact for Meja Stage-II expansion

Officials from NTPC, UPRVUNL and MUNPL exchange documents after signing the supplementary joint venture agreement for Meja Stage-II expansion in Lucknow.

NTPC Limited and Uttar Pradesh Rajya Vidyut Utpadan Nigam Limited (UPRVUNL) have signed a Supplementary Joint Venture Agreement (SJVA)-III for their 50:50 joint venture company, Meja Urja Nigam Private Limited (MUNPL), according to a stock exchange filing dated June 4, 2026.

The agreement, signed in Lucknow, incorporates provisions related to the capacity enhancement of Meja Stage-II from 2×660 MW to 3×800 MW into the original Joint Venture Agreement. 

The signing was attended by the Managing Director of UPRVUNL, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of MUNPL, and senior officials from NTPC, UPRVUNL, and MUNPL.

In May 2026, the Uttar Pradesh government approved the expansion project in Prayagraj district involving an estimated investment of around Rs 33,000 crore.
