NTPC Renewable Energy Limited (NTPC REL), on June 30, 2025, commissioned 64.7 MW solar capacity under the 1,255 MW Khavda-I Solar PV Project. This project is part of the larger 4,750 MW Khavda Wind-Solar Hybrid Renewable Energy Power Park in Kutch district.
With this addition, the total commissioned capacity under the Khavda-I Solar PV Project now stands at 321.65 MW.
The entire renewable energy park is spread across 9,500 hectares of land in Khavda tehsil. It will be developed in two zones — one each for wind and solar installations. Gujarat Industries Power Company Limited (GIPCL) is the nodal agency for project implementation. Sterling and Wilson Private Limited is serving as the Balance of System (BoS) contractor for this segment of the project.
In parallel, NTPC Limited has also commissioned 32.8 MW solar capacity under the 300 MW solar power component of its 450 MW Inter State Transmission System (ISTS)-connected wind-solar hybrid project in the same region. This project falls under Tranche-V of the Solar Energy Corporation of India’s (SECI) hybrid auctions. With this, 175.02 MW of the 300 MW solar capacity has been commissioned so far.
The 450 MW ISTS-connected hybrid project at Khavda comprises 300 MW solar and 150 MW wind power capacity. It is being developed on a build, own, and operate (BOO) basis.
NTPC had secured 450 MW capacity in SECI’s Tranche-V auction for ISTS-connected hybrid projects in May 2022. SECI had floated the Request for Selection (RfS) for 1,200 MW ISTS-connected solar-wind hybrid projects in October 2021.
SECI, Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (PGCIL), and the Central Electricity Authority (CEA) are working to set up transmission infrastructure to support these renewable installations in Khavda.
