NTPC Green Energy Ltd has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Nxtra Data Ltd to develop renewable energy projects for supplying round-the-clock power to Nxtra’s data centres across India. The agreement was signed at NTPC Bhawan in New Delhi by Sarit Maheshwari, CEO of NTPC Green Energy and NTPC Renewable Energy Ltd, and Ashish Arora, CEO of Nxtra.
Under the MoU, NTPC Green Energy will collaborate with Nxtra to enable captive renewable energy consumption for its data centre operations on a pan-India basis.
Nxtra, launched in 2013, currently sources 41% of its data centre power from renewable energy and states that 70% of its core operations run on clean power. In June 2024, the company became the first Indian data centre firm to join RE100, a global initiative that requires members to commit to 100% renewable energy use.
