NPCIL invites proposals for 220 MW Bharat Small Reactors

Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited (NPCIL) invited Request for Proposal (RfP) bids for setting up the 220 MW BSR (Bharat Small Reactors) Nuclear Captive Power Plant on December 31, 2024. The last date for bid submission is March 31, 2025.
The 220 MW NPP will be a Captive Generating Plant (CGP) that will use pressurised heavy water reactor (PHWR) technology and will be built on brownfield/greenfield sites offered by private firms.
The Private firms are expected to have the right to electricity generation as a captive power use along with funding the project, and NPCIL is expected to operate and manage the project.
The government plans to deploy 40-50 reactors over the next decade, with private sector collaboration in line with Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman’s 2024-25 Union Budget proposal.
