NLC India Renewables Limited (NIRL), a subsidiary of NLC India Limited, has signed a power purchase agreement (PPA) with Rajasthan Rajya Vidyut Utpadan Nigam Limited (RRVUNL) for an 810 MW solar power project in Bikaner, Rajasthan. The agreement was finalized on May 6, 2025.
This solar project is part of the 2,000 MW Pugal Solar Park, which is being developed by RRVUNL at multiple sites in Rajasthan, including Ramsar Chotta, Barala, and Bandarewala villages. The project will be divided into two blocks: Block I with a 410 MW capacity and Block II with a 400 MW capacity. NIRL won the project bid in October 2023 with a tariff of Rs 2.64 per kWh, following a competitive bidding process initiated by RRVUNL in May 2023.
The project is expected to be completed by May 2026 and will generate approximately 2 billion units of electricity annually. The solar power produced will be supplied to state distribution companies (DISCOMs) in Rajasthan.
This will be the largest solar power project undertaken by NLC India Limited to date, contributing significantly to renewable energy capacity in the region.
The project’s clean energy generation is anticipated to offset around 1.5 million metric tonnes of carbon emissions every year, marking a major step towards sustainable energy in India.
