NHPC signs 40-year PPA with CSPDCL for 1,720 MW Kamala hydro project
NHPC Limited has signed a 40-year Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with Chhattisgarh State Power Distribution Company Limited (CSPDCL) for the supply of electricity from the 1,720 MW Kamala Hydro Electric Project in Arunachal Pradesh.
The agreement was signed in Raipur on July 14, 2026, and will remain in force for 40 years from the Commercial Operation Date (COD) of the project. The latest agreement adds Chhattisgarh to the growing list of states securing long-term power supply from NHPC’s upcoming hydroelectric project.
PPA details
The PPA was signed by Ranjeet Thakur, General Manager (Commercial), NHPC, and V.K. Sai, Executive Director (Regulatory Affairs & Power Management), CSPDCL, in the presence of senior officials from both organisations.
According to NHPC, the agreement is intended to provide Chhattisgarh with a long-term source of hydroelectric power while supporting the state’s future electricity requirements.
The Kamala Hydro Electric Project, with an installed capacity of 1,720 MW, is being developed in Arunachal Pradesh and is expected to contribute significantly to the northeastern region’s hydropower development.
Series of agreements
The agreement with CSPDCL follows a series of long-term PPAs signed by NHPC for the Kamala project over the past few weeks.
On July 10, 2026, NHPC signed a similar 40-year agreement with Tripura State Electricity Corporation Limited (TSECL) in Agartala for procurement of power from the project.
Before that, NHPC entered into a 40-year PPA with Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam Limited (GUVNL) in Vadodara on June 30, 2026.
The successive agreements indicate NHPC’s efforts to tie up long-term offtake arrangements for the Kamala project ahead of its commissioning.
Commenting on the development, NHPC Chairman and Managing Director Bhupender Gupta said the agreement represents another step in expanding the role of hydropower in India’s energy mix and supporting long-term energy security objectives.
