NHPC records highest-ever single-day power generation of 169.34 MU
NHPC Limited recorded its highest-ever single-day power generation of 169.34 million units (MU) on August 2, 2026, setting a new company record during FY 2026-27. The generation surpassed the previous record of 167.02 MU, which had been achieved just a day earlier on August 1, 2026.
The new milestone follows a series of capacity additions and the restoration of key hydroelectric assets, which have increased the company’s ability to generate power during the ongoing high inflow season.
Capacity additions
NHPC attributed the record generation to the commissioning of the 800 MW Parbati-II Hydroelectric Project, the addition of 1,000 MW at the Subansiri Lower Hydroelectric Project and the restoration of the 510 MW Teesta-V Power Station.
The capacity addition at the Subansiri Lower Hydroelectric Project includes 750 MW commissioned during FY 2025-26 and a further 250 MW added in May 2026.
The Teesta-V Power Station resumed operations in July 2026 after remaining out of service since the flash floods of October 2023.
Following these developments, NHPC’s operational installed capacity has increased to 7,651 MW, comprising 7,251 MW of hydro, 350 MW of solar and 50 MW of wind capacity.

According to the company, the higher operational capacity has enabled it to maximise renewable power generation during the current high inflow season, contributing to electricity supply from clean energy sources.
