NHPC Limited has completed the trial run of Unit 2 and 3 at the 800 MW Parbati-II Hydro Electric Project in Himachal Pradesh.

The remaining two units are expected to undergo trial runs by March 31, 2025. Once fully operational, the project will significantly enhance NHPC’s hydropower capacity.

The Parbati-II project, a run-of-the-river (RoR) initiative, is located on the Beas River in the Kullu district, about 260 km from Chandigarh. It is part of the broader Parbati Hydroelectric Project, which comprises three stages: Stage I (750 MW), Stage II (800 MW), and Stage III (501 MW).

Stage II includes an 85-meter-high concrete gravity dam and a 31.5 km-long head race tunnel (HRT). It features four 200 MW Pelton turbine units, collectively generating 800 MW. The project is expected to produce around 3,108.66 million units (MUs) of electricity annually.

Power from Parbati-II will be evacuated through the Parbati-Koldam transmission line, supplying electricity to multiple states, including Himachal Pradesh, Delhi, Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, and Chandigarh.
