GAIL and TruAlt Bioenergy form JV for compressed biogas plants

GAIL (India) Limited has entered into a joint venture with TruAlt Bioenergy to expand the compressed biogas (CBG) sector. As part of the agreement, GAIL will acquire a 49 per cent equity stake in Leafiniti Bioenergy Private Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of TruAlt. The transaction is subject to conditions precedent and approval from the Department of Investment and Public Asset Management.

The joint venture will set up multiple greenfield CBG plants in phases, beginning with six facilities of 12 tonnes per day capacity each. Together, these will produce 23,976 tonnes of CBG annually, along with 83,916 tonnes of fermented organic manure and 403,596 tonnes of liquid fermented organic manure.

The first phase is expected to create between 700 and 1,050 direct and indirect jobs. It is also projected to replace about 17,000 tonnes of fossil fuels per year and reduce methane emissions by 8,000 tonnes annually.
