The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) has received approval for a revised solar power scheme under PM JANMAN and Pradhan Mantri Janjatiya Unnat Gram Abhiyan (PM JUGA).
The scheme aims to electrify 100,000 un-electrified households in tribal and particularly vulnerable tribal groups (PVTG) areas using off-grid solar systems, with a total budget allocation of Rs 9.15 billion. It targets 18 Indian states, including Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat, and West Bengal, where grid electrification is unfeasible.
The initiative also includes solarising 2,000 public institutions and providing solar lighting for 1,500 multi-purpose centers in PVTG areas, funded through the DAPST allocation from MNRE. Each household will receive Rs 50,000 for a 0.3 kW off-grid solar system, while multi-purpose centers (MPCs) and public institutions will receive Rs 100,000 each for solarisation.
The scheme’s fiscal allocations include Rs 200 million for 2024 and Rs 2.55 billion for 2025 for households and MPCs, with an additional Rs 500 million designated for public institutions in 2024. The scheme will operate from 2023-24 to 2028-29.
