MNRE deactivates 66 PM Surya Ghar vendors over pending applications
The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) has deactivated 66 registered vendors under the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana for one month following a review of pending consumer applications. The action comes with less than nine months remaining before the scheme concludes.
In a notice dated August 24, 2026, MNRE directed all registered vendors to undertake a time-bound performance review and clear pending applications. The Ministry said an analysis of portal data identified a group of vendors whose accumulated “Agreement Uploaded” applications were significantly higher than their demonstrated operational installation capacity during the previous quarter.
According to the Ministry, this amounted to artificial hoarding of applications, which compromises consumer choice and could delay the timely disbursement of subsidies.
Vendor deactivation
The 66 vendors have been placed under deactivation for one month based on the high number of pending applications. During the deactivation period, they will not be permitted to accept new consumer applications and will not be listed on the consumer vendor-selection page.
However, deactivated vendors will continue to have full access to the portal for completing installations associated with their existing applications.
The affected vendors have been given 30 days from the date of the notice to clear their pending backlogs. Vendors that demonstrate an improvement in performance metrics during this period will be reactivated. Those that fail to improve within the stipulated period will face extended deactivation.
Application backlog
MNRE has advised registered vendors not to retain consumer applications for more than 60 days without valid reasons. Vendors have also been directed to undertake applications in line with their ability to execute the corresponding installations.
