Author: PPD Team Date: August 22, 2025

Larsen & Toubro (L&T) Heavy Engineering has dispatched a steam generator for the Gorakhpur Haryana Anu Vidyut Pariyojana (GHAVP) in Fatehabad district, Haryana. The unit was sent from L&T’s Hazira facility in Gujarat.

This is the first of four steam generators being manufactured by L&T for GHAVP Units 3 and 4. According to the company, the delivery was completed seven months ahead of schedule. L&T noted it achieved the build in 33 months, marking one of the fastest deliveries globally. To date, it has supplied five steam generators for NPCIL’s ongoing fleet programme of 700 MWe Pressurised Heavy Water Reactors (PHWRs).

GHAVP Units 3 and 4 form part of NPCIL’s (Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited) ten-reactor fleet project, which aims to expand India’s domestic nuclear capacity.

The Gorakhpur project, conceptualised in 2009-10, has faced significant delays. Originally planned for commissioning in 2025, the Union government now expects the first unit to come online in phases during 2031-32, citing soil-related construction challenges.
