KPI Green unit signs 120 MW BESS agreement with GUVNL

KPI Green Energy Limited has announced that its subsidiary, Sun Drops Energia Limited, has signed a Battery Energy Storage Purchase Agreement (BESPA) with Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam Limited for a 120 MW / 240 MWh standalone Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) project in Gujarat.

The agreement was awarded through a tariff-based competitive bidding process conducted by GUVNL under Phase-VIII with support from Viability Gap Funding (VGF) under the Power System Development Fund (PSDF).

Under the BESPA, Sun Drops Energia will develop, own, and operate the standalone BESS project at two locations in Gujarat.

The project includes a 65 MW / 130 MWh system near the 220 kV Gariyadhar Air Insulated Substation (AIS) and a 55 MW / 110 MWh system near the 220 kV Otha AIS Substation. The storage capacity will be supplied to GUVNL on a long-term basis.

Portfolio expansion

The new agreement adds to an earlier 445 MW / 890 MWh BESPA already executed between the KPI Green Energy Group and GUVNL.

Following the latest addition, the group’s cumulative standalone BESS portfolio has increased to 565 MW / 1,130 MWh.

The company said the project strengthens its presence in utility-scale energy storage and supports its expansion into renewable energy infrastructure opportunities.
