The construction work of the Rs 69 billion Khorlochhu Hydropower Project in Bhutan has commenced, with the plant expected to be commissioned by September 2029.

The 600 MW project is being developed on the Kholongchhu River in eastern Bhutan.

In August, Tata Power and Bhutan-based Druk Green Power Corporation (DGPC) partnered to develop the project.

Later in November, Tata Power announced a partnership with DGPC to develop a 5,000 MW clean energy portfolio in Bhutan. As part of the partnership, Tata Power holds a 40 per cent equity investment in Khorlochhu Hydro Power, which operates as a public-private partnership company.

Additionally, the partnership includes the development of the 1,125 MW Dorjilung Hydroelectric Project (HEP), with pre-construction work scheduled to begin in January 2025. The Dorjilung project is expected to be commissioned by mid-2031.
