KEC energises Karnataka 765 kV line for 2 GW RE evacuation

KEC International Limited has energised the 765 kV Double Circuit Koppal–Raichur Transmission Line under the Koppal-II & Gadag-II Renewable Energy Zone (Phase-A) Scheme in Karnataka, enabling the immediate evacuation of 2 GW of renewable energy and providing transmission capacity to support up to 8 GW as renewable generation expands.

The transmission line forms part of the Inter-State Transmission System (ISTS) and is intended to facilitate the integration of renewable energy from Karnataka into the national grid. According to the company, the corridor has been developed to support the phased expansion of renewable energy capacity in the region.

Transmission

The project has an initial renewable energy evacuation capacity of 2 GW, which can be scaled up to 8 GW as additional renewable generation is commissioned under the Koppal-II & Gadag-II Renewable Energy Zone (Phase-A) Scheme.

KEC said the transmission line will strengthen the ISTS and contribute to India’s target of achieving 500 GW of non-fossil fuel capacity by 2030 by enabling greater integration of renewable energy into the grid.

Recent orders

KEC International recently secured new orders worth Rs 1,063 crore across multiple business segments. These include a wind engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) project of over 50 MW and a 400 kV transmission line project in Africa.
