CG Power bags Rs 288 crore PGCIL transformer contract
Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (PGCIL) has awarded a contract worth approximately Rs 288.26 crore to CG Power and Industrial Solutions Limited for the supply of 765 kV class transformers, according to information available on the corporation’s intranet system.
The order, awarded on July 27, 2026, covers the “765 kV Transformer Package 7TR-19-BULK” for the supply of 13 x 500 MVA, 765/400/33 kV, single-phase transformers. The package forms part of PGCIL’s bulk procurement programme for 765 kV and 400 kV class transformers and reactors of various capacities under Lot-7.
The contract is scheduled for completion by August 26, 2028.
Competitive bidding
Four companies participated in the bidding process and qualified for evaluation. These included CG Power and Industrial Solutions Limited, Transformers & Rectifiers India Limited (T&R), Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) and Siemens Energy.
CG Power secured the contract after emerging as the lowest (L1) bidder.
Business performance
The contract award comes as CG Power reported growth in its financial performance during the first quarter of FY27.
The company posted standalone sales of Rs 3,061 crore during the quarter, compared with Rs 2,643 crore in the corresponding period of FY26, representing a year-on-year increase of 16%. Profit after tax rose 27% year-on-year to Rs 364 crore.
Transmission expansion
The procurement forms part of PGCIL’s ongoing expansion of the interstate transmission network, with 765 kV transformers serving as critical equipment for high-capacity power transfer.
The 13 transformers under the package are expected to support the evacuation of electricity from renewable energy-rich regions and strengthen inter-regional power transfer capability across the national grid.
