JSW Energy commissions 150 MW Tidong hydro project

JSW Energy Limited, through its wholly owned subsidiary JSW Neo Energy Limited, has commissioned the full 150 MW Tidong hydroelectric project in Kinnaur district, Himachal Pradesh.

The run-of-river project, located in the Tidong Valley, was commissioned ahead of the previously guided timeline of October 2026. Tidong Power is the company’s fourth hydro asset in Himachal Pradesh and adds to its hydropower portfolio in the state.

The project has a long-term power purchase agreement (PPA) with Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Limited (UPPCL) for supply of 75 MW during May to October at a tariff of Rs 5.57 per kWh.

Operational impact

The Tidong project is located near JSW Energy’s existing Karcham Wangtoo hydro project, which the company expects will support operational synergies. Earlier, JSW Energy had commissioned 50 MW from Unit I of the Tidong Hydro Plant shortly after acquiring the project in January 2026.

According to the company, the project’s tariff structure and commissioning during the hydro season are expected to support earnings in FY27.

Capacity addition

With the commissioning of Tidong, JSW Energy’s total installed capacity added in the first quarter of FY27 so far stands at around 445 MW, comprising 225 MW of wind capacity, 70 MW of solar capacity, and 150 MW of hydro capacity.

The company’s total installed generation capacity has now increased to around 13,900 MW.

Growth pipeline

JSW Energy stated that its total locked-in generation capacity stands at 32.1 GW, including 13.9 GW operational capacity, 13.6 GW under construction across thermal, hydro, and renewable energy projects, and a 4.6 GW pipeline.

The company also reported 29.6 GWh of locked-in energy storage capacity, comprising 26.4 GWh from hydro pumped storage projects and 3.2 GWh from battery energy storage systems.

JSW Energy has set targets of reaching 30 GW of generation capacity and 40 GWh of energy storage capacity by 2030, along with achieving carbon neutrality by 2050.

Management statement

Sharad Mahendra, Joint Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of JSW Energy, stated that the early commissioning of the Tidong project reflects the company’s execution capabilities and supports its strategy of expanding a diversified generation portfolio.
