Jindal India Renewable Energy (JIRE), a subsidiary of Jindal Power Limited (JPL), has received a Letter of Acceptance (LoA) for 300 MW of solar plus storage capacity at a tariff of Rs 3.09 per kWh.
The award falls under NHPC Limited’s 1,200 MW Inter-State Transmission System (ISTS)-connected solar power projects with a 600 MW/1,200 MWh energy storage system (ESS) and an additional greenshoe capacity of 1,200 MW anywhere in India under Tranche-VIII. The LoA was issued on March 24, 2025.
NHPC invited bids in September 2024 for the selection of solar power developers (SPDs) to set up the 1,200 MW ISTS-connected solar power projects with ESS. The project will be developed on a build, own, and operate (BOO) basis, requiring developers to establish a dedicated transmission network up to the delivery point. Each 1 MW of solar capacity must be paired with 0.5 MW/1 MWh of ESS.
SPDs will be responsible for land acquisition, installation, ownership, connectivity, and regulatory approvals. NHPC will sign a 25-year power purchase agreement (PPA) with the successful bidder. The Scheduled Commencement of Supply Date (SCSD) is set for 24 months from the PPA signing date.
Author: PPD Team Date: February 14, 2025 The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) has released draft guidelines outlining the design, specifications, performance, and testing for solar cold storage systems equipped with thermal energy storage (TES) backup. These systems are primarily powered by solar photovoltaic (PV) energy, with TES providing backup cooling during non-solar hours, ensuring uninterrupted refrigeration for agricultural produce, dairy, fisheries, and pharmaceutical products. The guidelines define standards for solar cold storage…
