The Ministry of Power has advanced work on a national DPI for the energy sector through a meeting of the India Energy Stack Taskforce on November 24. The group reviewed key strategy and architecture documents that will guide the creation of a unified digital backbone for the full power value chain.

The meeting examined the draft Strategy Document version 0.1 and the Architecture Document version 0.1. REC Limited is the Nodal Agency for the effort, and FSR Global is the Knowledge Partner. The IES is planned as a secure and interoperable digital framework that links stakeholders and assets across the sector.

A roundtable followed the presentations. Taskforce members offered strategic inputs drawn from experience in technology, power systems and regulation. Participants included Taskforce Chairman Dr Ram Sewak Sharma, Chief Architect Sh Pramod Verma and Vice Chair Sh Pradeep Kumar Pujari. Senior officials from the CEA, REC Limited and NITI Aayog also attended.

Shri Jitendra Srivastava, CMD of REC Limited, called the meeting a pivotal milestone. He said the taskforce feedback will refine the framework and support progress toward the pilot phase.

The IES will use common digital protocols, open APIs and federated registries to improve data flows. The platform is expected to enhance operational efficiency for DISCOMs, support faster renewable integration and enable consumer focused digital services. Taskforce members noted that the IES could play a role for the power sector similar to Aadhaar for identity verification and UPI for digital payments.
