Electricity market
Electricity traded on the exchange reached 37.5 billion units (BUs) during Q1 FY27, registering a year-on-year increase of 15.9%.
IEX attributed the increase in volumes to elevated temperatures across the country, which contributed to India’s peak power demand reaching an all-time high of 270.8 GW in May 2026. National electricity consumption during the quarter stood at 485.4 BUs, reflecting growth of 8.8% over the corresponding period last year.
Market prices also moved higher during the quarter. The average price in the Day Ahead Market (DAM) stood at Rs 5.1 per unit, up 15.7% year-on-year, while the Real Time Market (RTM) recorded an average price of Rs 4.5 per unit, an increase of 13.8%.

IGX reported a PAT of Rs 16.3 crore for the quarter, compared with Rs 14.1 crore in Q1 FY26, an increase of 15.5%.
The company is also progressing towards a public listing. On July 14, 2026, IGX filed its Draft Red Herring Prospectus (DRHP) for an initial public offering (IPO). The proposed issue includes the sale of 22.3% equity held by IEX, enabling the company to reduce its shareholding to 25% in line with Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board (PNGRB) requirements.
Carbon market
The Indian Carbon Exchange (ICX) traded 4.5 lakh International Renewable Energy Certificates (I-RECs) during Q1 FY27, marginally higher than the 4.4 lakh traded during the same period last year.
Revenue from ICX stood at Rs 2.1 crore during the quarter, reflecting a year-on-year increase of 16.1%.
The results indicate continued growth across IEX’s electricity, gas and carbon market businesses amid rising energy demand and increasing participation in market-based trading platforms.
