SJVN appoints Rajesh Kumar Chandel as Director (Projects)

SJVN Limited has appointed Shri Rajesh Kumar Chandel as Whole-time Director (Projects), with effect from June 11, 2026, following approval from the Ministry of Power.

The appointment is for a five-year term from the date of assumption of charge, according to a stock exchange filing issued by the company on June 11, 2026. With the appointment, Shri Suprakash Adhikari has relinquished the additional charge of the post.

Chandel moves into the role after serving as Chief Executive Officer of SJVN Arun-3 Power Development Company Pvt. Ltd. and SJVN Lower Arun Power Development Company Pvt. Ltd. in Nepal, both subsidiaries of SJVN.

Experience across hydropower projects

Over a career spanning more than 35 years, Chandel has worked on hydroelectric projects across India, Nepal and Bhutan in areas including construction, planning, coordination and project execution.

In Bhutan, he served as Managing Director and Member Secretary of Punatsangchhu Hydro Electric Power Authority-II and was associated with the commissioning of the 1,020 MW Punatsangchhu Hydro Electric Project.

He also led development activities for the 66 MW Dhaulasidh Hydro Electric Project in 2020 from the planning stage until the start of construction work. Earlier in his career, he was involved in construction works related to the Head Race Tunnel of the 1,500 MW Nathpa Jhakri Hydro Power Station in Himachal Pradesh.

Within SJVN, he has worked in departments related to corporate coordination, monitoring, facility management and civil operations.

Educational qualifications

Chandel began his professional career with Himachal Pradesh Urban Development Authority (HIMUDA) in 1990 before joining SJVN on May 5, 1994.

He is a Civil Engineering graduate and also holds a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree. In addition, he is a Fellow of The Institution of Engineers (India) and a Chartered Engineer.
