Marking nearly 30 years of fuel-cell electric vehicle (FCEV) innovation, Hyundai has introduced the Initium concept, an SUV embodying its “Art of Steel” design language. With a targeted range of 400 miles (644 km) and a 201 hp electric motor, the Initium represents Hyundai’s continued commitment to hydrogen as a clean energy source.
The Initium will debut at Auto Guangzhou in China and the Los Angeles auto show, featuring a large-capacity hydrogen tank and aerodynamic enhancements like streamlined wheels to improve efficiency.
To ease range anxiety, Hyundai has incorporated an FCEV-specific route planner to locate nearby hydrogen fueling stations, enabling users to check station availability in real time.
The SUV also supports vehicle-to-load bi-directional charging, capable of powering personal devices and connecting to a 220V outlet to feed energy back into the grid. Hyundai CEO Jaehoon Chang emphasized the company’s long-standing dedication to hydrogen as an accessible and fair energy source for all.
