Hitachi Energy India Ltd has announced an investment of Rs 300 crore to expand its insulation and components manufacturing facility in Mysuru, Karnataka. The project will double the site’s capacity to produce transformer-grade pressboard and laminated board and is scheduled for completion by mid-2027.
The expansion includes replacing the existing fossil fuel boiler to make the Mysuru plant fully reliant on fossil-free process heat and electricity. According to the company, this will make the site the world’s first ultra-low carbon pressboard facility. The initiative is part of Hitachi Energy India’s Rs 2,000 crore investment plan announced in October 2024, spread over four to five years.
N Venu, Managing Director and CEO of Hitachi Energy India, said the expansion would support India’s grid growth and renewable energy integration while strengthening domestic manufacturing. Helmut Bockshammer, Global Product Group Manager for Transformers Insulation and Components at Hitachi Energy, added that localizing pressboard production will improve supply chain reliability and support the renewable energy transition.
The facility will serve customers in India as well as markets including the U.A.E., Oman, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Indonesia, South Korea, and South Africa. The company said the move addresses a supply shortage of transformer components while aligning with long-term sustainability goals.
