Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Sukhu announced the installation of a 2 MW solar power plant in Kaza, Lahaul-Spiti district, to enhance power supply in the remote region.
The plant will be fully operational soon, with the addition of a 1 MWh battery storage system.
The state is focusing on increasing solar energy use to become a “green state.”
In addition, 18 MW of solar plants are planned on vacant land near electricity board offices, and 50,000 rooftop solar systems are set to be installed across the state by 2026-27.
The government is also working to make the Himachal Pradesh State Electricity Board self-reliant by reassessing high-interest loans and rationalizing electricity subsidies.
