GE Vernova T&D India Limited announced on 17 December 2025 that it has received a Letter of Award from Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (PGCIL) for the refurbishment of the 2 x 500 MW high voltage direct current (HVDC) Chandrapur back to back link. The project is a key interconnection between the Northern and Southern regions of India.
The contract awarded by the domestic public sector utility PGCIL covers the design, supply, and execution of a comprehensive refurbishment of the HVDC link. The main scope includes the modernisation of HVDC thyristor valves and the HVDC control and protection systems.
GE Vernova T and D India Limited stated that the project will be executed over a multi year period. The company clarified that the order does not involve any related party transaction and that none of its promoters or group entities have any interest in PGCIL.
The refurbishment is intended to improve the reliability and operational efficiency of a critical element of India’s national power transmission network. Once completed, the upgraded system is expected to support more stable and efficient transfer of electricity between the Northern and Southern grid regions.
