EDF India and Actis have formed a joint venture (JV) to develop and operate an advanced metering infrastructure service provider (AMISP) platform in India.
The initiative aims to enhance operational efficiency, reduce losses, and improve financial sustainability for power distribution companies.
EDF India, a subsidiary of Électricité de France (EDF), has been active in India’s energy sector for over 25 years. In 2018, it won a tender to install five million smart meters across the country, along with associated advanced metering infrastructure. The project, now in its roll-out phase, has deployed over 100,000 smart meters in Bihar, with 1,300 meters installed daily. EDF has also developed a unique prepaid IT solution for the project, ensuring the operation and maintenance of all five million meters for eight years.
With India’s potential market for smart meters estimated at 270 million, the JV aims to accelerate the adoption of smart metering infrastructure, reinforcing India’s energy transition.
