The Expert Appraisal Committee (EAC) of the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC) has recommended granting Terms of Reference (ToR) for the 640 MW Khandwa Pumped Storage Hydro Project and the 1,500 MW Warsgaon Warangi Pumped Storage Project. 

NHDC Limited, a joint venture of NHPC Limited and the Government of Madhya Pradesh, will develop the 640 MW Khandwa Pumped Storage Hydro Project at Narmada Nagar village in Punasa tehsil, Khandwa district. The project will utilize the Indira Sagar and Omkareshwar reservoirs on the right bank of the Indira Sagar Power Station (ISPS) on the Narmada River. The total investment for the project is estimated at Rs 47.56 billion.

Adani Green Energy Limited (AGEL) will develop the 1,500 MW Warsgaon Warangi Pumped Storage Project in the Teckpole and Warangi villages in the Pune and Raigad districts of Maharashtra. The project’s capacity has been revised from 1,200 MW to 1,500 MW, with an estimated investment of Rs 55.16 billion.

Additionally, EAC has recommended granting environmental clearance (EC) for the 1,500 MW Tarali Pumped Storage Project. AGEL plans to set up the project in Patan, Satara district of Maharashtra, with an investment of Rs 60.1 billion.

EAC has also recommended an amendment to the ToR for the 600 MW Musakhand Off-Stream Closed Loop Pumped Storage Project.
