The Competition Commission of India (CCI) has approved Tata Electronics (TEPL) to acquire a 60 per cent stake in Pegatron India, the Indian arm of Taiwan’s Pegatron Corporation.
The acquisition, which will occur in two phases, is part of Tata Electronics’ strategy to expand its presence in high-precision manufacturing and electronics services.
Pegatron India, located in Chennai, employs about 10,000 people and manufactures five million iPhones annually for export to North America, Asia, and Europe. Pegatron is a key Apple supplier, providing electronics manufacturing services (EMS) for smartphones, including iPhones.
The acquisition supports Tata Electronics’ goal to strengthen its role in the global electronics supply chain, especially within the smartphone segment. Tata Electronics has previously expanded in the sector, including its October 2023 acquisition of Wistron InfoComm, marking the first Indian company to manufacture iPhones for both domestic and international markets.
