Trina Solar has set a new world record for solar module efficiency, reaching 25.44% with its n-type, fully passivated HJT modules, certified by Fraunhofer CalLab, Reuters reported. Passivation technology improves solar cell performance by covering surface defects. Higher efficiency can reduce space and costs for solar installations.
Professor Martin Green, a solar expert, noted that efficiency is essential for the future of solar technology, with costs typically decreasing as new technologies mature. Trina Solar’s CEO, Gao Jifan, affirmed the company will continue investing in passivated solar technology to maintain its industry leadership.
While HJT technology currently holds a small market share, it is expected to grow, with projections of 7-9% market share by 2026. However, TopCON cells are expected to dominate the market in the coming years. This breakthrough marks a new milestone for single-crystalline silicon solar cell modules’ photoelectric conversion efficiency.
