Bharti Airtel has acquired a 26% stake in a special purpose vehicle of AMPIN Energy Transition to develop a 50 MW wind-solar hybrid power project in Barmer, Rajasthan.
The Rs 378.9 million investment will enable Airtel to source green energy in a captive mode, utilizing interstate transmission networks for nationwide distribution.
The project, under AMP Energy Green Three, is expected to start operations by Q2 of FY 2025–26, pending approvals for grid connectivity and open access.
Airtel’s investment supports its goal of achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2050. The company has already solarised over 15,000 network sites, with 58% of its sites powered by renewable energy.
