Anvil Cables Private Limited, an Indian manufacturer of wires and cables for power transmission, has partnered with Wirepas, a global IoT connectivity firm, to implement a cloud-based electricity prepayment solution for Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI).
The solution aligns with India’s AMI Standard Bidding Document (SBD) and utilizes RF mesh technology. It has already been deployed in over 500,000 smart meters in Assam and Kashmir, ensuring scalable and cost-effective connectivity.
India is the first country to implement a nationwide cloud-based prepayment electricity metering system, replacing keypad and token-based models. Utilities such as APDCL in Assam and KPDCL in Kashmir are leading this transition, even in challenging environments.
The RF Mesh technology, deployed by Anvil Cables and Wirepas, ensures reliable communication in the demanding terrains of Kashmir and Assam. The cloud-based system enables seamless automated transactions, allowing users to top up their electricity balance anytime. It also features low-balance alerts and suggested recharge amounts based on consumption patterns.
The initiative supports India’s smart metering rollout under the Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS), contributing to improved efficiency for consumers and utilities.
