Kutch Copper Ltd, a subsidiary of Adani Group, has become a member of the International Copper Association (ICA), a global trade body representing half of the world’s copper production.
Based in Mundra, Gujarat, Kutch Copper is set to build a copper smelter with an initial capacity of 0.5 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) as part of an $1.2 billion investment by Adani Enterprises. The facility will produce copper cathodes, rods, and byproducts, supporting India’s goal of self-reliance in copper production.
Dr. Vinay Prakash, Managing Director of Kutch Copper, expressed enthusiasm about the membership, emphasizing the role of copper in achieving net-zero goals. ICA President and CEO Juan Ignacio Díaz welcomed Kutch Copper, highlighting its contribution to global decarbonization.
Kutch Copper plans to double its capacity to 1 million MTPA in the second phase, making it one of the world’s largest custom copper smelters. The company also aims to diversify by adding copper tubes to its product line.
